Aphrodite, considered the most beautiful being to ever exist was born when the Titan Kronos cut off his father Uranus' genitals and threw them into the sea, she emerged from the foam. The foam, known as 'aphros' in greek is where she gets her name.

Connecting with your gods and building a Kharis with them is very important. But worship doesn’t have to just be lighting a candle and speaking to her. There are certain rituals and things you can devote to her throughout your day! If candles and an altar are something you don’t have avaliable to you, that’s okay! From things as simple as devoting your skin care routine, makeup, baths and any form of self care.

A misconception about working with Aphrodite is that you must then be exactly like her, not only is this not possible as she is the epitome of beauty, but she wants you to love YOURSELF as you are and what you want to be. Accepting you as who you are and becoming who you want to be and truly shining. Working with Aphrodite will allow you to see the beauty in everything, to be kinder to yourself but to also have the power to not let people walk all over you and to stand up for yourself. She is the god of beauty, but she is also a very powerful god.

Setting up an Altar for Aphrodite can be so beautiful! Do keep in mind that different living circumstances (e.g family not approving of our religion) will bring different altars. Whether you have a desk to add your altar on or carry around a pocket altar is OKAY! The gods will not be mad at you or think less of you, if anything they truly understand. For Lady Aphrodite, the colours associated with her are pink, white and red. You can add things such as candles, beads perfumes and makeup! As she also is associated with the sea and sea shells, these are a great thing to have on your altar too!

Here is mine for example:

How to worship Aphrodite:

Setting up an Altar:

  • Olive oil

  • Frankincense

  • Water

  • Sweet - Honey/ Chocolate

  • Mirrors

  • Sea shells

  • Roses (red, white or pink)

  • Crystals (Rose Quartz, Aquamarine)

  • Candles (red, white or pink)

How do I pray to Aphrodite?

At the beginning, prayer can feel REALLY awkward and as if you have no idea what to say, that is NORMAL for most people. These are gods you are talking to, not your family or friends. It is really important to remain respectful. Now, this isn’t me saying you can’t make little funny mistakes, we’ve all been there I absolutely have. Prayer at the beginning can be really hard, this is why KHARIS is really important. Kharis is one of the pillars of Hellenism, which there will be more on if you go to the “Pillars of Hellenism” tab on this website. Kharis is essentially the bond and relationship you have with your gods, to give and not expect back, remaining grateful and to build that bond. If you have a note book, write some of your own down. I got a cute little pink one to write mine in. I will put a couple of examples below. There are old prayers hanging around online and in books, I just find it more personal to me to write my own. Light some candles if you can, relax, and let your self feel her energy and then, speak your heart, speak to her.

Radiant Aphrodite,

Goddess of love, beauty, and desire,

I call to you with an open heart.

Wrap me in your golden light,

Let your warmth kindle joy in my soul.

Bless me with love that is true and kind,

With passion that flows like the sea you rose from.

Teach me to see beauty in all things.

In myself, in others, in every moment of life.

Guide my heart to love without fear,

To give gently and receive with grace.

Let my words be honeyed, my touch tender,

My spirit shining like your morning star.

Gracious Aphrodite, be near me now,

And in all the days to come.

I honor you with love, with joy, and with reverence.

This is the baseline of working with Aphrodite, this website is made primarily for beginners and people looking into Hellenic Polytheism and the Ancient Greek Gods.

Working with Aphrodite, she will guide you and teach you self love, friendship and relationship. She wants you to be happy in who you TRULY are, the gods are not judgmental, they certainly do not discriminate, no matter if you’re straight, lesbian, gay or of ANY ethnicity. They love ALL the same. It may not ever be easy, and don’t give up at the first hurdle… remember the word “Kharis” we mentioned further up, THAT is what you need first, start building that and there will be great reward and satisfaction about what the gods can teach you about yourself.
